Goals

  • Enhance platform intuitiveness and user-friendliness
  • Streamline user workflows for increased efficiency
  • Create a consistent and modern user interface

Scope

  • Integrated UX/UI practices into the Agile development workflow.
  • Led the user experience strategy throughout the redesign process.
  • Defined and executed a new visual identity through comprehensive UI design.
  • Created and validated mockups and interactive prototypes through user interviews and testing.
  • Developed a robust design library to support consistency and scalability across the platform.
  • Oversaw design implementation, including developer handoff, quality assurance, and cross-functional coordination.

Redesign

Initial redesign involved crafting various design styles aligning with the client’s identity, emphasizing values like reliability, transparency, modernity, and stability. Following the client's selection of presented mockups, a new design system was constructed, encompassing design assets, typography, color palette, and design components to ensure consistency across all pages. The initial designs focused on restructuring layout, main list pages, location chooser, and main navigation. Emphasis was placed on actions prioritization and easy accessibility within the reorganized menu, a pivotal aspect of every operation. The intuitiveness of the location modal was enhanced for increased usefulness, and list page layouts were improved, incorporating new filtering options.Ask ChatGPT

Main
Challenges

From the early stage of the process, there were a few very important issues that had to be taken under consideration when redesigning the OpenBoxes platform:

  • Diverse Tech-Savviness Levels: Our user base exhibits varying degrees of tech-savviness, necessitating solutions that cater to users with different levels of technological proficiency.
  • Versatility Requirements: The platform must enhance the workflow for individuals occupying diverse roles and working in different departments. Additionally, it should address challenges experienced by various companies, warehouses, industries, and cultures.
  • Unstable Internet Connection: A significant portion of our users encounters instability in their workplace Internet connections, highlighting the need for features that can operate effectively under such conditions.
  • Small Screen Resolutions: While the platform is primarily designed for desktop use, a considerable number of users operate on screens with resolutions lower than 1366px. Previous features were not optimized for user-friendliness on smaller screens, posing a usability challenge.
  • Additional tools: Most of departments use other tools that could increase their work efficiency while working in Openboxes.Ask ChatGPT

List Pages – User Test Sessions

The sessions were crafted to identify and address issues in subsequent iterations. The primary inquiries centered around:

  • Evaluation of the enhancements brought about by redesigning list pages and identifying areas that still need improvement.
  • Assessment of the utility or confusion caused by the introduction of new features.
  • Examination of the alignment between page buttons and user needs.
  • Relevance and usefulness of data displayed on list pages.
  • Identification and optimization of frequently repeated or critical use cases within and outside the OpenBoxes application.

View / Edit Pages

This involved an analysis of the existing system and encountered challenges. The primary goal of the initial version of page view and associated workflows was to pinpoint problems, gauge their severity, and formulate design requirements for resolution. Usability sessions aimed to augment design decisions with additional insights, reinforcing confidence in the redesign's ability to achieve our objectives. The insights garnered from these sessions helped refine design goals and provided a clear direction for our efforts.Ask ChatGPT
